Inventory basics: items and units
How RestoQR models stock: base units, conversion units, thresholds and costs.
The model in 30 seconds
- Every inventory item has one base unit — the unit its balance is counted in:
g, kg, mg, ml, l, piece, dozen, portion, box, packet, bottle, can, bag, carton, tray. - It can also allow conversion units (e.g. base
kg, also orderable ing) with a factor to the base. - A low-stock threshold ("Reorder at") triggers an alert — and can auto-86 the menu items that use it.
- A cost per base unit drives the stock value stat and wastage costing.
Example: tomatoes with base unit kg. You buy in kg, recipes consume g, and the balance is always exact in the base unit — no rounding games.
Availability
Inventory is a plan feature. If the Inventory screen says it isn't in your plan, that is the subscription, not your role — see Module not in plan. Nothing you already entered is ever deleted.
Who manages inventory
Owners and managers have inventory-manage rights; cashiers can view stock. There is no separate "inventory staff" login — give the person who counts stock a manager account, or trim a manager's permissions to inventory only (Fine-tune permissions).
