Table statuses, explained
Free, Seated, Ordered, Bill requested, Needs cleaning — what each table colour means and who changes it.
The five statuses
| Status | Shown as | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
empty | Free (green) | Ready for the next party |
occupied | Seated (blue) | Guests sitting, nothing ordered yet |
order_placed | Ordered (amber) | At least one order is in for this table |
bill_requested | Bill requested (red) | The guest tapped "Request the bill" — go to them |
needs_cleaning | Needs cleaning (grey) | Party left; reset the table before seating |
The same vocabulary is used everywhere — the tables board, the till's table picker and the collect queue all read these exact statuses.
Who moves a table along
- Guest orders from the QR → the table becomes Ordered automatically.
- Guest taps Request the bill → Bill requested (see Service requests).
- Cashier settles the bill → the till offers to mark the table cleared.
- Staff can also step a table forward manually from the Tables board — see Clear a table.
